Unlikely Reunions

Posted on by Jeremy Daggett

I talk about Craig Mod often. I’m forever forwarding one of his many newsletters to someone who cares about craft, walking, presence, attention. In a week I get my hands on a physical copy of his new book: Things Become Other Things—I’m giddy.

Craig has been open and vulnerable over the years of his public life. In the midst of all the work (the walks, the stories, the pictures) he has also written about why he chooses not to drink alcohol and about his years-long experience with therapy. More recently, he has shared the story of meeting his birth mother. He’s been on a whirlwind bookstore tour through the US, and in the lead-up to his book launch he was on many podcasts. I loved two of these episodes in particular: this mammoth episode with Tim Ferris (which is actually part 2 of almost 5 hours of podcast listening bliss) and a standalone episode with Adoptees On.

Craig grew up in Connecticut, was adopted because his mom had him when she was 13 and couldn’t take care of him, and has spoken occasionally about having been adopted. The fine art edition of TBOT is a glimpse into a piece of his childhood. In the last year, though, Craig has reconnected with his birth mother (and some of her family), and the story is astounding. Of all of the Craig Mod podcast content freshly available, I recommend these two episodes. So good.

And so, so happy for you, Craig.
